Details about Starbucks’ web3 project

Starbucks is starting their web3 project and the details are awesome. But is it really good for the web3 space? Is it good for retail?

In April this year, Starbucks announced that they will move towards web3 space for the first time.
The web3 space reacted very positively to it as if this would mean that millions of their loyal customers could become web3 users as well.
On the 12th of September Starbucks published more details about their upcoming project.

The project is called Starbucks Odyssey Experience. Basically the whoever has their customer loyalty application will be able to earn and buy NFTs. The NFTs are called digital collectible stamps. Those “stamps” will unlock some interesting benefits.

Customers will actually even don’t know that they own and use NFTs stored on the blockchain all the time.

Even more, Starbuck is targeting to develop a complete eco-system like for example their own marketplace for those collectibles. And all that without a separate digital wallet and even without the need to use cryptocurrency. All that Starbucks will develop on Polygon blockchain.

For the retail industry, it is very important that such a giant as Starbucks lead towards the web3 space.
There could be an effect that others might follow.

For the web3 space, this is also great, as the masses will start using it.
The only point we could see as not that good for the web3 space is the closed ecosystem that will be created around Starbucks’ own loyalty system. If consumers don’t even know that they are using NFTs and blockchain, if they are still not familiar with cryptocurrencies it will not push the development of the web3 space.

But nevertheless it could be the starting signal for many other companies.
