Walmart Launches Limited-Edition Collectibles

The digital web3 strategy of the retail giant Walmart continues.
Now the are partnering with National Entertainment Collectibles Association (NECA) to launch AutoT, a digital collectible platform. The collection will feature exclusive figures and rare chase variants signed by stars and creators.

The AutoT website uses patent-pending blockchain technology to track the authenticity and ownership history of collectibles. This will enable collectors to easily trade those collectibles on the platform.

Collectors can store their digital collectible for up to two years free of charge in the NECA Vault or have the physical item shipped to them.

“At Walmart, we are always finding new ways to bring innovation and one-of-a-kind offerings to our customers,” said Laura Rush, SVP, Electronics, Toys and Seasonal at Walmart U.S.
The first AutoT collection are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles published on 6th of October.
This strategy is interesting as it is not directly implemented based on standard NFT approaches that other retailers are following. Already by that it can be seen as truly innovative.
